“Why didn’t Dad play with me when I was a child?” I heard my sister ask my mum one day.
I was shocked. I knew our father had been emotionally distant, but I remembered having fun playing Leap-Frog over his back. that indeed, was one of the very few memories I had of him interacting with his 3 girls. But until my younger sibling raised the concern, it had never occurred to me that this was a large anomaly in our family.
The reality of it made her feel quite low. It had deeply saddened me also, but I realised I had repressed it.
The video below is account of how as a parent myself, I almost fell into the same trap with my own daughter.
A great way of showing our kids that we love them, is making time to play silly games with them and have a bit of fun.
Wishing you plenty of daft faces, weird noises and lots of laughter in your household!
